The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tennessee is inviting applications for a clinical or tenure-track (Assistant/Associate Professor) faculty position in dermatology. The applicant must have a DVM or equivalent degree and must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD), or the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD), or certification as a Fellow of the Dermatology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) AND be eligible for board certification by the ACVD or ECVD or as a Fellow of the Dermatology Chapter of the ANZCVS. Diplomate or fellow status is preferred, but applicants who have completed residency training and are board eligible are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to add to the department’s reputation and make contributions to the teaching, service, and research program of the College.
The successful applicant will be one of two veterinary dermatologists. Two residents in dermatology, rotating interns, technicians and veterinary assistants complete the dermatology team at UTCVM. There is an excellent caseload with a wide spectrum of dermatology cases.
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences has clinical specialists in internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, neurology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, emergency/critical care, behavior, dentistry, physical therapy, radiology, and nutrition. An in-house diagnostic endocrinology service provides adrenal, thyroid, and reproductive hormone testing for dogs and cats, as well as for several other species. In addition, there are opportunities to work with the large animal and avian and zoological medicine services on dermatology cases. The faculty promote excellence in patient care and teaching of both veterinary students and house officers.
The successful candidate will share an enthusiasm for teaching excellence, strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and compassionate patient care while actively supporting an inclusive teaching and work environment. Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of professional students and house officers; research training of house officers and/or graduate students; development of a basic science or clinical research program (including the ability to acquire external funding), and participation in continuing education at local, national, and international levels. The successful candidate is expected to add to the department’s reputation and make contributions to the teaching, service, and research missions of the college. Opportunities for collaborative research and for the development of an independent research program are available. Exact effort allocation will depend on the chosen candidate’s interests and qualifications.
