Function The purpose of the class is to perform a range of site inspections to ensure compliance with the City's Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) and federal, state, and local standards and regulations. This class works under general supervision according procedures established by Department of Environmental Quality, and Hampton City.
Minimum Qualifications - Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED
- Minimum of one (1) year work experience in stormwater construction projects required.
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in the construction, engineering, surveying or related field.
- Considerable knowledge of local and state construction and environmental codes and regulations.
- Some vocational training or college level courses in civil engineering, surveying or related field preferred.
- Training in riparian areas or construction of shoreline structures preferred.
- Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion and Sediment Control Certification at time of employment.
- Certification from DEQ for Stormwater Inspector required within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- This position is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
Additional Requirements - The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
- Requires some duties to be performed outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
