Position Summary

This Entry Level and Staff Level Civil/Hydrological Engineer positions are based out of our Denver (Englewood), Colorado office and will support mining projects, primarily for tailings (mine waste) dams and heap leach facilities. In general, this position entails working in the mining industry, technical consulting, working with a small dam breach analysis group, and being highly integrated with clients on civil and geotechnical projects. Civil Engineers and Environmental Engineers would be the best fit for the position, but other engineers with an interest in the mining industry, hydrology, hydraulics, numerical modeling, soils, or other areas are welcome.

Requirements


  • Support tailings dam breach analyses by assessing site history, evaluating embankment fill and tailings properties, developing appropriate numerical models, mapping breach inundation extents, and identifying breach impacts.
  • Develop hydrologic models (delineate catchments, input CN layers, define streamflow, input design storm events, and generate streamflow hydrographs) to assist dam breach analyses and stormwater infrastructure design.
  • Complete geotechnical site assessments and associated field services for mining infrastructure development.
  • Support material characterization activities including gathering field data, designing and overseeing laboratory programs, interpreting laboratory data, developing appropriate models, and drafting of technical specifications for construction.
  • Work with and provide training to junior engineers.
  • Assist with generating drawings and figures using Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Support ongoing Engineer-of-Record services for tailings and heap leach projects located around the world.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (minimum); Master of Science (preferred). Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering degrees from ABET accredited universities are preferred.
  • Professional Experience: 0+ years for Entry-Level. 2+ year for Staff-Level.
  • Computer Software: Significant experience with MS Office Suite. Some experience using standard hydrologic/hydraulic software (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, etc.); some experience using GIS software; numerical modeling experience and programming experience are advantageous; and basic understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Geotechnical Laboratory: Proficient with standard material testing and index tests.
  • Required Registrations / Professional Development: Successful completion of FE Exam. Professional Engineer registration with greater than 4 years of experience.
  • Travel: Must have ability to travel in the U.S. and internationally to support field programs. Travel periods could be up to several weeks.
  • Physical Demands: Position may require sitting for extended periods of time, extended hours working on a computer and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments are located in a variety of climactic conditions and may require standing, squatting, bending, the use of machinery and a variety of standard geotechnical tools.
  • Technical writing: Proficiency with technical writing is expected.
  • Other (Project Level): Working knowledge of stormwater infrastructure design, geotechnical monitoring instrumentation, and numerical modeling methods and software.
