Job Description Performs a variety of routine and manual clerical work necessary circulate library material, provides basic reference services, assists public computer users, and assists with the creation and delivery of library programs.
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties CORE COMPETENCIES: Shelve library materials and shelf-read to ensure materials are in proper order.
Transfer mail and daily cash receipts between the libraries and the appropriate City departments.
Perform daily transfer of materials between the libraries, when assigned.
Assist at special events, as assigned.
When assigned to Circulation duties:
- Register and update patron accounts.
- Check library materials in and out.
- Receive and account for various fee payments.
- Prepare various simple reports.
- Maintain patron application files.
- May be assigned to repair library materials with minor damage.
When assigned to Programming duties:
- Sets up and assists with story times, craft programs and other programs.
- May plan and lead story times, craft programs, and STEM activities.
Prepares Keeps the Children's areas neat and orderly.
- craft projects in advance; instructs and assists children and their caregivers in the completion of projects, when assigned to Children's programs.
- Sets up and supervises movie and game programs.
- Assists Program Librarian or Children's Librarian at outreach events.
- Keeps the Children's areas neat and orderly.
When assigned to Reference duties:
- Prepares reference desk for opening and/or closing.
- Assists patrons at public computer terminals by helping them logon and giving them basic instruction in the use of computers and internet search engines.
- Assists patrons in locating print and electronic sources that meet their informational needs.
- Logs in periodicals and prepares them for use.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and complies with the City of Killeen's driving policy.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
2. Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days of hire.
3. Must be able to work evenings and Saturdays.
Required Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Graduation from high school or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Working knowledge of library classification systems.
2. Ability to keep program attendees engaged.
3. Ability to interact productively and positively with library patrons.
4. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
5. Ability to accurately maintain library filing systems.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
7. Ability to type.
8. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Supplemental Information TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Computer, printer, photocopier, telephone; Colibri book covering machine, disc repair machine, book truck, die cutting machines and hand punches; scissors, paints, glues, and assorted craft tools.
